Privacy Policy

Last updated October 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Knowmad (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Knowmad app and related services (the “Service”). Knowmad generates research-paper podcasts from topics you request.

Who we are

Knowmad is operated by its maintainers. For privacy questions, contact sam@propelreview.com.

Information we collect

You sign in with an email and password to use Knowmad. We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: your email address and the credentials Amazon Cognito stores for your user account (we do not store your password ourselves).
  • Episode requests you submit, including topic text, optional audience description, and requested episode length, associated with your account.
  • Episode records and generated content (titles, scripts, status, failure reasons, and audio) stored so the Service can produce and play your episodes.
  • Session tokens kept on your device so the app can stay signed in and obtain short-lived credentials to call our API.
  • Technical and operational data needed to run the Service on AWS (for example API request metadata and server logs).

How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Generate, store, and deliver podcast episodes you request.
  • Create and authenticate your account, and authorize API access with short-lived credentials for that account.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.

How episodes are shared

Episodes you request are owned by your account. Other signed-in users cannot list or play them through the app. We and our processors can access episode content to operate the Service. Do not submit topics or audience text you are not comfortable storing for that purpose.

Third-party processors

We rely on service providers to run Knowmad. Depending on the request, that can include Amazon Web Services (hosting, Cognito accounts, API, storage, and language models), speech synthesis providers used to generate episode audio, research-data sources consulted while building episodes, RevenueCat for App Store subscriptions, and PostHog for product analytics, session replay, error reports, and support messages. Those providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us.

Analytics and tracking

We use PostHog to understand how Knowmad is used and to find and fix problems. In the app, that covers usage events (for example screens opened and episodes requested or played), crash and error reports, diagnostic logs, and session replays: recordings of the app screens you see and how you interact with them. Passwords and fields marked sensitive are masked in replays. Once you sign in, this data is linked to your account.

Our website, tryknowmad.com, also uses PostHog to count page views and similar usage, and stores an identifier in your browser to do so. Messages you send from the app or the website’s support page go to PostHog Support together with that usage context so we can help you.

We do not include advertising SDKs, sell your information, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Backend systems also record operational and LLM-related telemetry used to run and monitor generation.

Data retention

Account and episode content are retained until you delete your account, or while needed to provide the Service and for legitimate operational purposes. Signing out removes the session tokens from the device; uninstalling the app clears them as well.

When you delete your account, we delete your sign-in, the episodes you requested with their scripts and audio, your topic graph, listening history, credits, profile and onboarding answers, and the usage data tied to your account. Topic articles and episode segments shared with other listeners are not personal to you and stay. Backups and server logs age out on their normal schedule.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your choices

You can sign out or stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account and its data in the app: open the menu, choose Profile, then Delete account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID subscription settings. To request a copy of your data, or deletion if you can no longer sign in, email the address above from the address on the account.

International users

The Service is hosted in the United States. If you use Knowmad from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our providers operate.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
